Building Relationships with Jesus, One Another, and the World

Building Relationships with The World

Outreach Ministries

Building relationships with the World means reaching out to those in need beyond the walls of the church, in both the local and the global community. These are programs that St. Paul's supports with gifts and with service.

Helping Those In NeedYoung Life

Young Life doesn’t start with a program. It starts with adults concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship. These relationships don’t happen overnight — they take time, patience, trust and consistency.

So Young Life leaders log many hours with kids — where they are, as they are. Leaders faithfully attend football practices, mingle with teenagers at a mall and play pick-up soccer. We listen to their stories and learn what’s important to them because we genuinely care about their joys, triumphs, heartaches and setbacks.

We believe in the power of presence. Kids’ lives are dramatically impacted when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God’s love with them. Because their leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose.

This is the first step of a lifelong journey; the choices they make today, based upon God’s love for them, will impact future decisions … careers chosen, marriages formed and families raised. All ripples from the time when a Young Life leader reached out and entered their world.

Donald L. Heiter Community Center

The Donald L. Heiter Community Center (DHCC) opened in August 1993. The existing Lewisburg Area Community Center was renamed for local police chief Donald L. Heiter, who had a heart for young people and was instrumental in starting the Center. The community center began with individuals forming a Board of Directors in order to develop an environment in which local youth could interact responsibly. The Board also was interested in utilizing this source as an intergenerational community organization. One individual, Yvonne Morgan, suggested using her print shop for band nights and after- school programs. This led to the DHCC having various programs for all ages. Since then, the DHCC has become a valued community resource.

The mission of the Donald L. Heiter Community Center, a non-profit organization, is to strive to be a center of the community, providing innovative responsive programs and welcoming facilities with broad volunteer and financial support from the community. The Center addresses community concerns, and supports the wellness of the community for all of its people.

Mission Central

Mission Central is the mission warehouse of the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church. Along with our 18 satellite operations called “HUBs”, we supply humanitarian goods and logistical services to hundreds different ministry and social service agencies. Since our beginning in June 2002, Mission Central has hosted tens of thousands of volunteers who come to experience being "the hands and feet of God" in service. With our volunteers, we process United Methodist Committee on Relief(UMCOR) "Relief Kits" for use around the world, provide all types of needed supplies for local and national ministries, and assist many projects that are sending God's love around the world.

Sierra Leone

For several years, St. Paul’s has been in covenant relationship with our brothers and sisters in Sierra Leone, Africa. Each year, pastoral support is sent to Sierra Leone in an effort to bring stability and blessing to those who have been called to proclaim Good News in the midst of unimaginable destruction from a civil war. In addition, we are in relationship with Albert Memorial UM Church in Sierra Leone. Through prayer and financial support, we are able to resource our sister church in Sierra Leone, and to encourage its leaders and people.

Eastern Union County Supplemental Food Program

The mission of this program is that no one in Eastern Union County goes to bed hungry. Volunteers of the program distribute food the first and third Fridays of each month to an average of 680 Eastern Union County residents, all from households with an income of 150% or less of the designated federal poverty level. Approximately 1200 different individuals received services during the 2008-09 fiscal year. Monthly, approximately 6,750 pounds of nutritious food providing for 9,000 meals are provided by the EUCSF Program. Clients of the program are also eligible to receive clean, gently used, contemporary clothing at no cost. The EUCSF Program is housed in the basement of the Baptist Church at 51 S. 3rd Street in Lewisburg.

Lewisburg Council of Churches

The Lewisburg Council of Churches is an ecumenical group of Christian servants who organize and support many ministries throughout the year. St. Paul’s is one of the many congregations in Lewisburg which comprise this organization. The Council oversees The Eastern Union County Supplemental Food Program, housed in First Baptist Church, which distributes food to several hundred of our neighbors based on financial need the first and third Friday of each month. Also, an Emergency Food Bank is housed at Christ Lutheran Church, and provides food for those who experience an emergent need. The Council organizes financial resources for transients who find themselves in town and in need of funding for gas, transportation, or a night’s lodging. The Council also oversees Soup and Scripture each Lent, which provides physical and spiritual food for those who gather each Wednesday during the weeks of Lent each spring. Also, an ecumenical Good Friday Worship Service is sponsored by the Council and led by pastors within the Lewisburg Ministerium. And each fall, the Council and Ministerium organize the Lewisburg Area CROP Walk which unites us with the millions of our neighbors, both locally and globally, who are in need of the most basics of life: clean water, food, and shelter
