+ OUR MISSION, VALUES, AND HISTORY

The mission of St. Paul's is very simply stated: "As a congregation unified by and for Jesus Christ, we come together to make disciples (Matthew 28:16-20), nurture disciples (Acts 2:41-47), and reach out into our community and world with the love of God." (Matthew 22:37-39) We seek to build relationships with Jesus, one another, and the world.

Our core values are:

  • Unconditional Love - people matter to God, so we will welcome and accept them where they are and work together for mutual growth and maturity.
  • Relationships - we will work to bring people closer to Jesus and closer to one another
  • Sacrifice - we willingly deny ourselves and take up our own cross.
  • Servant Leadership - we follow the example of Christ in serving others before ourselves.

St. Pauls in 1861In 1806 several families in Lewisburg and Montandon who had become adherents to the teachings of the Evangelical Church (founded by Jacob Albright) joined together to become a mission church called St. Paul's Evangelical Church and built a house of worship on the site of the present church. As membership increased in the next half century, the need arose for a larger building. So in 1915 the present structure (seen at right) was started. By a merger of the Evangelical and United Brethren Churches in 1946, the church became St. Paul's Evangelical United Brethren Chruch (E.U.B.). In 1968 the Methodist and E.U.B. Churches merged and the church became known by its present name: St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
The church has been noted throughout it's history as a friendly, caring, family-oriented group and for its generous benevolent giving to foreign missions and to local benevolent causes.
